This is the first recording of Geesin sr. and a difficult album to label. Could be categorised as experimental. The bizarre sounds, strange speeches resembling a British Captain Beefheart, frequent change in speed and macabre, yet sometimes happier and upbeat, piano pieces, along with chirpy outbursts from other instruments just add to the uniqueness of this album, making it very pleasurable to listen to and hard to forget.

Lovingly re-issued, this is another gem from the catalogue of seminal library records label KPM. Ron Geesin's futuristic 19 track odyssey 'Electrosound' was originally issued in 1972 and has been fully remastered by the man himself. Pressed onto striking blue and white marbled vinyl and pressed up in an edition of 500 copies in gatefold sleeve. Not a very good pressing though, some crackling here & there....

Group Inerane is the now sound of the Tuareg Guitar Revolution sweeping across the Sahara Desert and inspired by the rebel musicians that started this music as a political weapon used to communicate from the Libyan Refugee camps in the 1980s and 1990s. Spearheaded by the enigmatic guitar hero Bibi Ahmed, Group Inerane has been together for several years and carries the rich tradition of Tamachek guitar songs for another generation. These ten tracks are a combination of amplified roots rock, blues, and folk in the local Tuareg styles, at times entering into full-on electric guitar psychedelia.

Before Today burns brightest in the beautifully nostalgic pang of ‘Round and Round’. It’s such a multifarious and densely layered track that it could be dissected over a ream of pages, but here are a few highlights: the ghostly hush of the first verse, which perfectly mimics the atmosphere of Godley and Crème’s ‘Cry’; the pinging back and forth between Pink’s heliumised falsetto and his lower range in the first third of the song; that phone ring giving way to one of the most wonderfully awkward bridges between verse and chorus that you’ll ever hear; and the bittersweet drenched-in-pathos sing-along that the song descends into, which positions it as one of the most perfect summer songs of recent times. It won’t please the lo-fi purists, but ‘Round and Round’ gnarled by recorder grot just wouldn’t work—this is a song that really needed to scorch out of the orange Los Angeles perma-haze.

When you go to Finland, a country where 95% of the population is inbreed, chances are that you will meet at least 7 members of the Avarus family! You can smell them from a mile away, they're the adults raising their kids on homebrew white spirit, continuously producing the kind of farts you can't hear though the stench is worse than the ones that sound like a brassband. Behind every Finnish tree there is a member of Avarus humping another Avarus member, and rarely a Kemialliset Ystavat member (the other 5% of Finns). The governement of Finland is not proud of this sick family, they try to keep it silent, rarely give interviews to press from other countries and make sure planes hardly fly out. Though for some reason Arttu Partinen, Roope Eronen and Tero Niskanen made it as a trio in a small boat to the USA. The only instruments that made it were a few balloons and a crappy casio. On arrival they found a microphone, a drum and more toys, climbed the WFMU building and played the craziest session ever! Like a bunch of children discovering the 50's euro avant garde scene, the 60's psychedelic free jazz and pre-punk scene, the 70's sound poetry and punk scene and the 80's disco scene in one afternoon!! This LP sounds like a mix of all of that I guess. Limited to 300 copies, comes in a psychedelic duo coloured cover by Dennis Tyfus.

Vol. 3 in the series of Folk and Pop Music of Myanmar (Burma). Many people there believe in ghost spirits called Nats. These spirits are historical figures who met tragic or violent deaths. They are said to possess the power to assist or devastate the lives of those who recognize them. A Pwe is a ceremony held to appease a Nat. The Kadaw is the medium to the Nat, a singer, dancer, storyteller, bringing the audience into a trance while the melodically ornamental and thundering sound of the Nat Pwe orchestra plays on. This is some of the most jarring, intense and maniacal music you can imagine, with the bells, cymbals, and tuned metal bars crashing and spiralling, while the hand drums and Hsaing-Wang circle of rhythm pound the beat.
