Dokaka, is a one manned voice, no effect, no auto-tune, no edit, no sampling, DIY human synthesizer. Most will remember him as the Japanese beatboxer whose vocal only reinterpretations of Led Zeppelin, Slayer, the Rolling Stones, and many others gained cult status when his mp3’s went viral. The sensation was enough to attract the attention of Björk who incorporated his unusual skill into her 2004 Medúlla album. Now in 2009 Dokaka has recorded his first album of original material ‘HUMAN INTERFACE’ which is now available for the first time outside of Japan. The album includes 17 hours of vocal insanity multi-tracked into 88 muttered micro tracks.

Katsura Yamauchi started playing sax and improvising while a university student in Matsuyama. He quit his company job in October 2002 and thereafter became a full-time musician. Salmo Sax, his original sound art, is created from the reverberation of sound itself, and cellular-level communication. Yamauchi has been developing Salmo Sax in Japan and other countries, mainly through solo performances.

Very different from her usual 'song' work. Stereo Bugscope is a performance system that detects oscillating sounds emitted by the circuitry of electronic devices. Normally they are too faint to hear, but electronically amplified reveal an amazing beauty.

Kato Hideki's project Green Zone here continues with an absolutely fantastic piece (the title track) of 45 1/2 minutes, that ever so slowly and thoughtfully builds up from a simple, subdued melody played on the bass guitar, all the way to a full-blast impro-rock/noise workout still based on the same theme. It completely takes you in and blows you away, the way Ground Zero used to do in 'Consume Red', for example. Highly recommendable.
