Absolut Null Punkt - Absolut Null Punkt
In 1984, prior to his founding of proto-metal armageddon unit Zeni Geva, Kazuyuki K. Null forged, along with Seijiro Murayama (the original drummer for Keiji Haino’s peerless Fushitsuha), the ungodly alliance of Absolut Null Punkt (ANP). After a 15-year hiatus, the duo decided to play together once again, a decision culminating in a series of performances in their native Japan and, more recently, several shows in parts of mainland Europe. This self-titled release on the US-based, Important Records, is a document of performances taken from both Tokyo and Osaka. As you would expect from two veterans of the Japanese noise community, Null and Murayama concoct a visceral brew of pulverizing free rock improvisation and Merzbow-style white noise power electronics.

Afternoon Saints - The Shirley Jangle
Lee Ranaldo, Christian Marclay, Günter Müller and David Watson. What a company! Most of these people don't need further explanation, maybe just say that David Watson from New Zealand plays bagpipes and guitar, and that Swiss musician Günter Müller's subtle, spare, and meditative playing turns sound into liquid textures.
Three sides of bubbling audio biosphere and a fourth-side etching by Lee Ranaldo, made specially for the project. Recorded in the Echo Canyon Studio on Murray Street in downtown New York, mixed and edited by Jim O’Rourke.
The sleeve is brilliant, by the way, with exclusive art work by Leah Singer.
Label: K-RAA-K / KED05
Medium: 2LP
Music, Percussion , Guitar , Turntablism , Improvisation , Vinyl

Tetuzi Akiyama & Jozef van Wissem - Hymn for a Fallen Angel
Minimal classical contemporary folk blues played by Japanese rising improv star guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama and Dutch lute player/composer Jozef van Wissem. Their second CD as a duo. 'The music is gradual and contemplative, unfolding like an unhurried chess game, edging forward in a shared yet adaptable and accommodating language. Courtly arpeggios, blues slurs and other pointers beyond the frame don't disrupt the Feldmanesque autonomy of their continually mutating, freely patterned flow.'-The Wire, UK.
Label: Incunabulum / INC 003
Medium: CD
Music, New Folk , Guitar , Strings
Price: € 13.00

Alan Courtis & Dylan Nyoukis - Fight the Pyramids
Anla's solo piece is a sweet ride of ponderous strings, designed to bury deep. Dylan's piece is a electronic drunken swagger straight to tape. The final piece is a live duet which sounds more like an ensemble piece, real fucking strange brain gas emission that confused all in attendance, especially the two performers.
Label: Chocolate Monk / Choc155
Medium: CD-R
Music, Guitar , Electronic , Sonic Experiments
Price: € 6.00

Derek Bailey and Steve Noble - Out Of The Past
Out Of The Past was recorded well over a decade ago, and finds a much-deserved belated release, some four years after Derek Bailey's passing. Glenn Branca - Symphony No.2 (The Peak of the Sacred)
Scored for multiple guitars and percussion, the symphony is divided into five movements and features Z'ev, a unique percussionist whose banging instruments strangely complement the music. Glenn Branca - Indeterminate activity of resultant masses
Long rumored, long-awaited and essentially first-time issue of this incendiary Branca masterwork, recorded in 1981 at NYC's Radio City Studios -- during the peaked out early era of Glenn's 'Guitar Army' ensembles -- and shortly after the release of The Ascension EPon 99 Records. Featuring contributions from soon-to-be Sonic Thurston Moore & Lee Ranaldo, as well as Branca mainstays Craig Bromberg, Barbara Ess, Jeffrey Glenn, Sue Hanel, David Rosenbloom and Ned Sublette, Indeterminate also contains two other pieces: John Cage's infamous anti-Branca interview with Wim Mertins, captured at Chicago's Navy Pier back in 1982; and a gorgeous, previously unreleased composition 'Harmonic Series Chords,' performed by The New York Chamber Sinfonia in 1989.

Allan Bryant - Space Guitars
The American new music and avant-garde composer Allan Bryant began his career during the 1960s in the Rome-based ensemble Musica Elettronica Viva alongside Alvin Curran and Frederic Rzewski. This production for C.R.I. is an astonishing study of the electric guitar taken out of the rock context and used as a source generator of rich and complex harmonic music. Similarities to Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, and Phill Niblock's music stem from their shared infatuations with the power of the amplified six-string and their will to exploit the less frequently explored sonic palette of the instrument, which knows no limits. Space Guitars is a drone-based work of astonishing and powerful proportions that, while shamefully overlooked in the gamut of avant-garde music, is clearly an influence on Sonic Youth and Elliott Sharp's textured soundscapes.
Label: CRI Recordings / CD 699
Medium: CD
Music, Guitar , Drone
