Sound artists Adam and Jonathan Bohman, Lukas Simonis and Anne La Berge formed the band APRICOT MY LADY in 2003. Since then they played some rare performances and recorded a lot of material. This CD ‘Newly Refurbished and Tussock Moth’ is only the top of that iceberg! The particular songs on this CD are chosen because they seem to form a sort of ’song cycle’ with an implicit logic and all that. They are using found objects, text, voice, samples, filters, mixers, pedals, violins, guitars and flutes to make the music they make. It might be (un)interesting to know whether this music is supposed to be ‘improvised’ or ‘composed’ or ‘heavily processed’ or even ’spontaneously erected’. It’s all that and less, or none of that and more.

His primitive percussive sounds struck a new nerve with many artists and musicians, none more so that fine London jazzman Kenny Graham. So inspired was he by these extraordinary recordings that he decided to bring together a band of top notch session men and pay his very own musical homage. The result is this exceptionally rare and unique 1957 album of Moondog covers (Moondog Suite) and Graham’s own complimentary .compositions (Suncat Suite). Engineered by a young Joe Meek and starring Stan Tracey, Phil Seamen, Danny Moss, Ivor Slaney, soaring vocalise and a host of strange instruments this was a truly unique cocktail of sound and musical vision.

This DVD is a archival document of an early (1987) show by wide-eyed mystics Maher Shalal Hash Baz at Kid Ailack Art Hall, Tokyo and captures the innocent joy and rapturous invention he brought to their music. The visuals provide a rare and valuable opportunity to pick apart the working methods of one of the Japanese underground's most truly original and agile thinkers, Tori Kudo. In Maher Shalal Hash Baz, he took the heterophonic voicings, the deliberately fluctuating rhythmic mis-steps and the non-unison unison so characteristic of Japanese traditional music and re-applied them to idiot savant mini-hymns arranged for electric guitar, euphonium, ocarina and organ. It's a music that exists in a unique world of its own.
